This morning, we headed over to the British Library, which has the most amazing collection of rare books I've ever heard of. We saw things like the Magna Carta, Jane Austen manuscripts, original copy of Beowulf, Handel's Messiah, some of the music Mozart wrote, the Beatles lyrics they wrote out, Michelangelo and Da Vinci's notebooks, letters from Winston Churchill, Henry VIII, the Guttenburg Bible, and on and on - all in one room - it's crazy! While we didn't spend nearly the time the adults would have liked to there, it was on to something much more important for the kids...our tour of the Warner Brothers studios where they made Harry Potter.
We took a train out to Watford Junction, which is a great British town name, I have to say. It actually was a really cool place and a really fun tour for anyone. But for those who love Harry Potter books and movies, it was incredible! We walked through all kinds of sets - the great hall, Hagrid's house, Diagon Alley, the Gryffindor common room, and Dumbledore's office, to name a few. We also saw the model of Hogwarts that they film all the outdoor scenes of Hogwarts with. Hard to imagine if you haven't seen it, but the attention to detail is mind-boggling. We also really liked the section about all the creatures they created. I think they called it animatronics. The only drawback is that we may have ruined the magic for some of the girls. They were saying they'll never look at the movies the same again. Oh, and we also had Butterbeer - the only other place it's sold besides Universal Studios in Florida. So, we're officially Harry Potter supernerds, but it was really fun. When we got back to the apartment tonight, we watched part of the 1st HP movie that we'd brought on our iPad.
How many more times can I say we had an amazing day? But we did!
