Today we took the tube to Piccadilly Circus and had Zelle get us there. She did great, and it's fun to see all the girls getting familiar with getting on and off the tube, how to follow the signs, stand to the side while people pass on the stairs, etc. At Piccadilly, we took a double decker bus tour all over the city and saw most of the major sights. The girls were really wanting to do a bus tour, so off we went! We saw Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and Parliament, Westminster Abbey, the Tower Bridge, and Tower of London, St. Paul's, the Eye, and others. It was fun to sit up on the top deck of the bus, even though it was a little cold and windy. It's definitely sweater and jacket weather here - I'm wishing we'd brought a few more warm things!
After our tour, we went to Covent Garden where we window shopped, and found lunch. We loved this Parisian store called Plyone that had all sorts of funky, colorful, creative everyday items. We found lunch at a place called "The Pie," which was really good - like chicken pot pies, only with lots of choices of fillings. Tuggy ordered a steak and kidney pie thinking the kidney part was kidney beans, but it was, in fact, true kidneys. She was saying her pie was gross, and Mark confirmed that it was! Anyway, we had fun at Covent Garden listening to live strings music, and watching street performers. Nearby is the London Transport Museum, so we decided to check it out. It was actually really interesting and there were old wagons, buses, trains and subways we could climb in and explore. It makes you realize what a challenge human transport has been throughout London's history, and it makes you appreciate how well everything works now!
We thought we'd take the bus home, to see the sights above ground on our way home, but we kept running into different obstacles, so after some wandering, we found our way home and watched a little bit of Mary Poppins before bed. It was another great, full day!
